Join Golden Gate Bird Alliance for a field trip in celebration of Birdability Week, an annual event launched by Birdability, a nonprofit organization working to ensure the birding community and the outdoors are welcoming, inclusive, safe, and accessible for everybody. This field trip is wheelchair accessible and geared towards people with mobility disabilities and other limitations who want a slower birding experience.
Summer has drawn to a close and we are in the midst of the fall bird migration. Let’s get out on the marsh to greet our returning winter visitors. We’ve timed to trip to also get excellent views of resident Ridgway Rails.
We will be on level wheelchair accessible terrain and there are benches but expect lots of stationary observing, less than half a mile of traveling on paved, level trails. Please bring a portable chair if you have concerns. There is wheelchair accessible parking and bathrooms.
The entrance to the MLK Jr. Regional Shoreline is at Doolittle Dr. & Swan Way in Oakland. To reach the marsh, enter the park on Swan Way (very near Doolittle Dr.) and drive all the way to the end of the road (~.8 mi.). This will be the 3rd parking lot, at the observation tower. Please carpool if that works for you.
We’ll meet in the Arrowhead Marsh parking lot. Directions here https://bit.ly/3H0wVPZ
